The new year got off to a beautiful start with a wedding between two members of Trevs. On 17th January 2026, Daniel ‘Dan’ Scobbie and Megan Huang tied the knot at The Story at Mount Oswald. They spent the afternoon in Trevs, followed by an evening reception at Radisson Blu Hotel with The Manglers, Trevs’ resident jazz band, in attendance as wedding performers. Their festivities continued at Trevs’ Bar with a reception filled with nostalgia and cheer. HEX spoke to the couple to learn more about their return to College which was “one of [the] highlights” of the wedding.

“Being in Trevs for part of the day was one of our highlights”

Dan and Megan’s love story began during Freshers’ Week of 2022, which marked the beginning of Dan’s PhD studies and Megan’s master’s degree. Despite the two sharing a nearly eight-year-long academic career at Durham, they only became acquainted as postgraduates. Dan commented that they “got on really well together”, initially starting off as friends while working together on the MCR Executive Committee and eventually becoming a couple.

 Their decision to return to College for one of, if not the most, momentous occasion of their lives, was fuelled by their fondness for Trevs which is home to many of their beloved memories together. As Dan explained, Trevs is “a special place for [them]”, and enabled them to share this joy with their relatives and friends. Dan revealed that “most of [their] guests were friends from college”, who similarly relished the opportunity to return to College to “reminisce about [their] undergrad days” and “good times in Trevs”.

 It seemed only natural to the couple to hold their wedding reception in Trevs bar because it was “the perfect place to catch up with friends”. indeed, Dan and Megan enjoyed the reunion immensely, calling it both “lovely and “quite emotional”. The wedding reception was an especially “special moment” for Megan as an international student from Taiwan because Durham served as her home away from home. She told HEX that she “always wanted to show her parents and best friends from home (her bridesmaids) the place she spent her university days in, and to introduce her friends to them”. Dan was also able to bridge worlds by hiring The Manglers, of which he is a veteran member having first joined in 2018, to perform during the celebrations at the Radisson Blue. He spoke fondly of the band, remarking that “their performance on the day got very good reviews” and that “quite a few of [their] guests were also ex-Manglers”.  

The couple also expressed their gratitude for the coordination of College staff that made the wedding possible, stating: “We just wanted to thank the principal and vice principal for allowing us to hold part of our special day in College – it was a great day and we really appreciate it! Also thanks to the bar team for their excellent service and The Manglers for their fantastic performance (we would recommend them thoroughly for your future event needs) and also to Tim Fowler for rounding off the day with some Trevs dancefloor nostalgia. We are so grateful to them all for making our day so enjoyable and memorable.”
