Welcome to HEX! Or more appropriately, welcome back. HEX was Trevelyan College JCR’s fortnightly magazine for sixteen years, from 1997 until 2013. I’m very pleased to announce that, over a decade later, we have decided to bring it back.
I was inspired to start a college magazine about a year ago after seeing how successful it could be in other colleges. Trevs may be smaller, but it has an energy and a willingness to contribute that I do honestly believe is unparalleled in most other colleges – so I think it is a perfect place to have a college magazine. The focus of HEX is not only to platform student writing, but to give students who might have never thought about writing the opportunity to be creative and produce something, whilst also highlighting the many Trevs events that go under the radar. To have a permanent record of this college’s happenings and the people who come through it would be a beautiful thing; I hope that this magazine can capture the moment of what it is like to be in Trevs, and of how dedicated the people in this college are.
Inspired by the hexagonal ethos of the college, there are six sections to HEX: News and Sport, Features, Opinion, Arts & Culture, Creative, and Puzzles. This really encompasses the range of content we’re aspiring to produce, hoping that there is at least one section that interests you. For ideas of what each section is looking for, check out our website for past articles and ideas.
If you’d like to write for HEX, there are numerous ways of getting involved. The only qualification is that you need to be a member of Trevs JCR or MCR. You can write an article by:
- Joining our Facebook Contributor Group and following us on Instagram. Here, we will let you know when we’re looking for articles and suggest things that you could write. You can comment below a post to take one of the article ideas and then email it to us before the deadline with the section included in your subject heading.
- If you’ve already got an article idea you’d like to write, that’s great! Email us with a word document of your article with the subject heading of what section your article fits into.
We’re particularly looking for Trevs-related content, so if you’ve got something that happened last term that you’d like to write about, or are putting on an event this term, please do get in touch with us! We’d love to hear about it. You can reach us at trevs.magazine@gmail.com.
I’m very excited to see what HEX turns into in its new era, and hope that everyone reading this is excited to contribute to a huge community project for the college.
