Trevelyan College’s theatre company, Sixth Side Theatre, is putting on its first ever student-written play in February this term.
It’s ok. We’ll be ok. is written by Alysia Orbell, a fourth year Engineering student at Trevelyan College.
The play follows Matt and Jen, a couple based in Edinburgh struggling to face the reality that Matt’s new job will involve him moving to London. With the couple being the only characters, the show is shrouded in an intimacy with emotions at the centre. “Viewers can expect a lot of anxiety and twice as much heart,” Sixth Side President Charlie Eddison told HEX.
Charlie explained that his goal with Sixth Side this year has been to put on a student-written play. “University is a place to explore and experiment, and supporting student-written plays is a part of that,” he said.
“Viewers can expect a lot of anxiety and twice as much heart.”
“This play came to me from a Trevs student, and has a lot of themes around relationships I personally connected heavily with, so I thought it would be a perfect fit for our first of this kind of production. Not to mention it has a small cast and intimate spacing, aspects Sixth Side specialise in.”
Alysia Orbell, who wrote It’s ok. We’ll all be ok., told HEX that the conversation around whether a relationship can truly work long distance is relevant to so many who will be “about to move out of Durham to those about to go on a year abroad.”
“A lot of the issues and feelings explored are based on conversations we’ve all had with our friends so I think people can empathise with this,” Alysia said.
Sixth Side are currently accepting Creative Team applications for It’s ok. We’ll be ok. The production will take place on 22nd and 23rd February in the Dowrick Suite, Trevelyan College.
